A lot of parking, my wife had to use the restroom so we went into the first building, which was the bus terminal, young lady behind the counter said "these bathrooms are for bus ticket holders only", she said go up to the "T" train bathrooms. Those were locked also, but we asked someone agan and they kindly opened the b-room. Plan ahead and go to b-room prior to arriving at the Riverside station. I'm guessing in Massachusetts that aren't laws regarding public places and public use of b-rooms? What? Taveling from Wisconsin. 9-25-17.
The final destination/origin of the D line (fastest green line): Riverside! This location is easily accessible by highway since it's right off of exit 22 on 128 and there's plenty of parking. I'm sure many commuters take advantage of the $6/day parking spot if they don't live within walking distance. If you are coming out of town from the West it is also a good idea to park here to take the T in to Fenway for Red Sox games. The transportation area is huge! They have the train station and maintenance pits for the ones that are out of service.
While I hardly ever have to take the D line to the terminus I do appreciate that the large terminal area also accommodates buses! What a relief that I don't have to torture myself with going to the South Station Bus Terminal when there's a Bus stop for Go Bus and Megabus just 10 minutes away by T or less than that driving. I recently took the Megabus and my friend took the Go Bus directly from here and while it's a bit of walking from the actual train platform it offers an easy alternative than going directly from Boston. The Go Bus section is well labeled and has a dedicated building where you can go in and purchase tickets and use the bathroom. Megabus on the other hand is much further down on the side walk on the left side. My SO and I didn't even realize where the stop was (not labeled) until we saw a huge crowd of people! The bus option from Newton is very convenient when going to NYC and cuts out any additional city driving since it's minutes away from I-90W. We also found out that if you need to park your car overnight here it's $13/day, which is affordable compared to Boston/city parking.
Convenient to avoid driving into Boston and there's usually plenty of parking as long as there's no Red Sox game. I've never had a good experience with the bus depot here though, so maybe just head over to South Station instead.
It's better than driving so you really have no choice but to use this train service. Tad confusing for tourists with limited instructions and only 3 working machines to buy tickets - argh. Apparently you can buy tickets on your phone but no visible signs to let you know that. Huge line ups for the Red Sox games so get there early.
Best way to get into Boston from the burbs along 128. $6 all day parking, does not reach capacity even on weekdays (we parked at 11am). RT pass is about $5.50.
